On May 30 2009 the head of the Google anti Spam squad Matt Cutts gave a valuable and definitive presentation on the right ways to use WordPress. You might want to take notes. Trust me it will be worth you time.
You can browse the slides at
You can also download the talk in PowerPoint format.

Very helpful. Didn’t want to sit through the whole presentation so I sort of flipped the slides and then went to the relevant portion of the talk. I don’t have a blog but have been thinking about starting one. The message of this presentation seems to be something like, “don’t cheat, do honest work and offer something useful”. Probably good advice. I do hate the idea that success or failure on the Internet is so strongly determined by Google (isn’t it ?). I’m an Apple fan but would like to see Bing succeed just to keep Google honest. Thanks.
Hi Ian,
Being successful on-line with a blog is so much easier when you offer something of value. Sure you have to consider your theme, write good headlines to grab people’s attention and also good copy to key their attention and do a few things for the search engines to get indexed and found.
Google is currently very important to that success, but it is not the only route to success or failure. There are other ways to attract an audience, for instance through social media platforms like twitter and facebook.
But I do agree, having Bing succeed would be good for all of us, although I do struggle with promoting a Microsoft platform, having been an Apple user since the beginning.
Thanks for your feedback though. KR Simon
Thanks for sharing this Simon. I had missed this…
Pleasure John. Good to hear from you. I hope you had a chance to watch the full video as, for my money, Matt shares some awesome insights.
